The Legacy Board. Small but Mighty!

He served his community as a Lake County commissioner for 12 years, State Representative for 4 terms and was then appointed by Governor Bills Owens as a Commissioner to the Colorado Public Utilities Commission.  Carl was an integral part of a community group that established Leadville as the permanent home for the National Mining Hall of Fame & Museum. He later served as President and Executive Director of that distinctive organization.

 Carl and Ken have been close friends for over forty years. They worked together underground at the Climax mine, served together as Lake County Commissioners and in the Colorado State Legislature.  When Chlouber approached Carl with the idea of reviving the town with a 100 mile foot race, Miller’s response to him was - “you’re crazy as hell!  Sure I’ll help you!”.  Though he never ran the race, Miller served as the official starter for the very first Leadville Trail 100 Run. 

Miller’s wide-ranging tenure in public service on both a local and state level, is more about his character than just his chosen profession.  As one of the Legacy Foundation’s most devoted and diligent Board Members, Carl is known for his integrity, due diligence and fact checking.  He brings a deep love for Leadville as well as a long history to share (let’s not repeat the mistakes of the past).  Carl says “serving on the Legacy Foundation Board is rewarding because you can see the results and positive impact the Races and the Legacy Foundation has on the community and the racers.  Thanks to Ken and Merilee, our community benefits while the runners and bikers get to enjoy a unique and challenging personal experience”.

 His focus these days is his family (his granddaughter now serving as a Lake Co. Commissioner) and reading up on local and political history, that’s when he’s not out on his daily walk or bike ride on the Mineral Belt Trail!  Mr. Miller, thank you for your service.
